Marpessa Dawn was a mixed-race actress, born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the United States on January 3, 1934. Her mother was African American and her father was of Greek-American and English heritage. She rose to fame in the 1950s and 1960s, primarily in France, where she worked in films and television. She was also a model and a dancer, and appeared on Broadway in the musical "Jamaica" with Lena Horne. Throughout her career, she spoke out against racism and prejudice, and was known for her activism and involvement in civil rights issues. Marpessa Dawn passed away in 2008 in Paris, France, at the age of 74.
